A growing number of wealthy families are moving beyond the traditional single nanny. Instead, they are assembling entire teams of specialized childcare professionals, spending upwards of $250,000 a year. These parents, often described as "CEO parents" by industry insiders, treat childcare like a corporate operation, hiring experts for specific tasks rather than one all-purpose caregiver.
The new model involves a roster of talent. A family might employ a sleep trainer for the infant, a potty-training specialist for the toddler, and a "baby chef" who prepares organic, nutritionally balanced meals. Older children might have a separate tutor for academics, a coach for bike-riding lessons, and a social skills mentor. The goal is to outsource every developmental milestone to a professional.
Agencies that cater to the ultra-wealthy report a surge in requests for these a la carte services. One agency founder noted that clients want their children to have a "village," but they are paying to build it from scratch. The cost covers not just salaries but also background checks, insurance, and often a travel stipend for staff who accompany the family on vacation.
Critics argue the trend creates a sterile, transactional childhood. But for the parents, it is simply efficiency. They view their time as a high-value resource and prefer to delegate the messy, repetitive tasks of parenting. In this world, a child's schedule is a project plan, and the nanny is no longer a helper -- she is a project manager.
