Your worrying about the wrong things. 3 places parents should actually put their focus

Parenting comes with an endless supply of things to worry about. But according to parenting contributor Heather Johnson, many of those worries are misplaced. She suggests that when parents spend less time stressing over the wrong things, they free up space for what actually matters: building confidence, connection, and mental health in their kids.

Johnson points to three areas where parents should direct their attention instead of getting caught up in common but less important concerns.

The first is the relationship itself. Kids need to feel seen and heard. Regular conversations, shared meals, and simple moments of undivided attention do more for a child's emotional development than perfect schedules or spotless rooms.

The second is allowing children to face manageable challenges. Rescuing kids from every struggle can weaken their problem-solving skills. Letting them work through difficulties, within reason, helps them build resilience and trust in their own abilities.

The third is modeling healthy behavior. Children learn more from what parents do than what they say. Managing stress well, showing kindness, and admitting mistakes teach lessons that lectures cannot.

Johnson's message is straightforward. Worry less about the small stuff and invest more in the everyday interactions that shape how children see themselves and the world.
