A father of two has decided to settle an old argument once and for all. After years of hearing his wife describe her days at home with the kids as "relentless" and "mentally draining," he announced he would take over all childcare duties for one full week to prove that stay-at-home parenting is actually easy. His plan: keep the house clean, cook all meals, and maintain a cheerful disposition from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
By day two, the experiment had already hit a snag. The toddler refused to nap unless the father performed a specific dance routine involving a spatula and a kitchen timer. The baby, meanwhile, developed a sudden preference for being held only while walking in circles. The father reported that his "easy" schedule now includes 47 snack requests, three outfit changes due to juice incidents, and a mysterious pile of Legos that seems to multiply every hour.
His wife, watching from the couch with a coffee she actually got to drink hot, simply smiled. She has not said "I told you so" yet, but her raised eyebrow says enough. The father now admits that the hardest part is not the mess or the noise, but the constant decision-making. What to feed, when to switch activities, how to negotiate a truce over a single blue crayon. He has also learned that "quick" errands take 90 minutes and that a trip to the grocery store is basically a hostage negotiation.
By day four, he started keeping a tally of every time he said "please don't put that in your mouth." The count is currently at 213. He has also started talking to the plants. The experiment officially ends Tuesday, but sources close to the family say he has already apologized to his wife and offered to book her a spa day for the following weekend. When asked if he still thinks stay-at-home parenting is easy, he paused for a long moment, then said, "I think I need a nap."
