First, parents turned to Dr. Google for answers. Then came the Facebook parenting groups, where strangers debated sleep schedules and diaper rashes with equal parts passion and misinformation. Now, a new source of advice has entered the chat: artificial intelligence. And for many parents, the shift from human error to machine error feels even more unsettling.

The problem is not that AI lacks information. It has plenty. The problem is that AI has a well-documented habit of sounding confident while being completely wrong. When a new parent asks a chatbot whether a baby should sleep on their stomach, or what to do about a fever that won't break, the AI might produce a calm, authoritative answer that is dangerously off the mark. Unlike a Facebook group where other parents can push back with their own experiences, a chatbot offers no debate. It just answers.

This matters because parenting is already full of anxiety and conflicting advice. Adding a tool that cannot truly understand context, nuance, or the difference between a mild rash and a medical emergency is a recipe for trouble. Some parents are already using AI to plan meals, write bedtime stories, or even generate responses to their pediatrician. But when the stakes are high, a wrong answer from a machine can have real consequences.

The lesson is not to avoid technology entirely. It is to remember that no chatbot has ever raised a child. The best advice still comes from people who have been through it, and from doctors who can look you in the eye. AI might be fast, but it is not wise. And in parenting, wisdom matters more than speed.
