The TODAY show co-host and comedian Tig Notaro recently connected over a surprisingly common piece of bad advice that many new parents in Hollywood hear. During a lighthearted conversation, both women admitted they had fallen for the same myth about raising children in the entertainment industry.
The misconception? That a baby or toddler needs to be "trained" to sleep through loud noises on a film set. Dreyer, who has three young sons, and Notaro, who has twin boys, both recalled being told by well-meaning colleagues that they should let their newborns sleep in noisy environments so they would not be disturbed later. The idea is that if a child gets used to chaos early, they will become a flexible, easygoing kid who can nap anywhere.
Both women quickly discovered the reality. "It is a total lie," Dreyer said with a laugh. She explained that her children simply did not adapt that way, and trying to force it only led to overtired, cranky babies. Notaro agreed, noting that her twins were perfectly capable of sleeping through a quiet room but would wake up the second a door slammed. The myth, they concluded, is just another example of the unrealistic pressure placed on parents in high-pressure jobs.
Instead of trying to make their kids immune to noise, both moms now prioritize quiet, consistent sleep environments. They shared a knowing laugh about how quickly Hollywood myths get debunked by real-life parenting.
